How do I strip cloth diapers?

I was doing an experiment to find out if a prefold was more absorbent than a GDiaper cloth insert. Well, I found out that my GDiaper inserts are repelling and not absorbing at all. I'm not sure why. I use Seventh Generation laundry soap, though I am switching to Rockin' Green when we get our paycheck on the 15th. I also do an extra rinse after I wash them. I do not use diaper creams, but I do use powder.
I know that I need to strip them. But, I'm not exactly sure how? How many washes with hot water should I use? I have an HE machine, so I don't really see the water as it's rinsing, so I can't tell if they are rinsing completely clean.
Any help?

  • the cloth diapering mamas group on here has tons of information about this:)

I tried a lot of different things to get rid of smell from my diapers, but I never had a problem with urine repelling. Maybe try a vinegar rinse on the inserts (not the PLU covers, vinegar breaks them down). Vinegar helps to break down built up detergent. Also, do not use dryer sheets during the dry cycle bc they can cause a repelling build up on the diapers. HE machines can be notorious for not completely rinsing the diapers after laundering. Good luck! Hope this helps:)
