Wyoming Facts You Probably Didn’t Know

1. We all know that Wyoming was the first state in the US to offer suffrage to women…but do you know why?
Central Press, Getty Images

We needed the women’s votes to get enough votes to become a state. (Wyoming also had the first woman governor in the US, Nellie Ross in 1925 and the first female court bailiff and the first woman justice of the peace.)

2. At 13,804 feet, Gannett Peak is Wyoming’s highest point

The lowest point is the Belle Fourche River – 3,099 feet

3. The state dinosaur is a triceratops. Wyoming also has a state fossil, Knightia.

4. The city of Gillette has the largest High School in the state (Campbell County High School)
