  • When you ask him to clean up break the tasks down for him. Ask him to pick up one thing at a time. If you don't it can become overwhelming and difficult to process. It also helps to make it fun!

  • if he's doing it just to see you react, remove the object(s) of choice..at 2 1/2, a child knows how to push buttons.

  • I agree....make it fun. Do it together and tell him you can not move on to the next thing until they are picked up.

  • Try to only aloow him to take out so many toys at once...for example...if he wants to play with blocks and cars...thats fine but tell him he can't take anythign else out until those things are put away. If he tries to take something else out before having put those things away first, take it away from him and reinforce your rule. As soon as he cleans up, he may take something else out.
That way the mess doesnt become huge and out of control and he ends up feeling to overwhelmed to clean it.
Have a place for everything to go to be put away too..that helps a lot.
