Buy a house December or January?

Is there any advantage to buying a house Dec or Jan? Which is better.

  • Buy in December, cause then the previous home owners will have to pay your property tax for this whole year, buy in January and it really won't make a difference.

    Thats about the only thing I can think of : /

  • Buy in December and you can put it on your taxes when you do them next year.

  • Taxes will be prorated and you'll only be responsible for your portion (for the time you are/were in the house) regardless of when you purchase the house and the funds will be dealt with as part of closing. Doesn't really matter if you buy/close in December or January.

  • there isnt, just you get your tax rebate bigger this year if you buy in december, vs january, then you have to wait til next year... but if you dont need the money, then wait til next year
