2 Bumps

How much milk at 9 days old?

I am currently breastfeeding my daughter and I have an outing to go to with my son and will need to pump and leave a botter for grandma. However, I have no idea how much she is eating...it is about 8 minutes on each boob, lol. Does anyone know how many ounces she is eating or that she needs every four hours. I need to know how much so I can pump and leave directions for grandma.

  • 1 - 1.25 ounces per hour. That's actually a forever number with breastmilk,. which changes as baby gets older. Leave bottles of two to three ounces, no more... tell grandma to burp often.

  • Generally your breast will only produce what your baby normally eats...so if you pump you will see how much comes out and thats probably about how much she eats at one feeding, plus just a touch more. Try not to pump till completely empty though..this could cause you to begin to over produce.
You can always leave a little formula with grandma for JUST IN CASE.
    Hope this helps.

  • I filled up a few 4 oz. bottles and noticed she was only drinking 2- 2 1/2 oz. at a time, so now I only pump that much into a bottle.
