I was just reading about Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt's daughter, Shiloh wanting to be & looking like a boy.. If your 5 year old girl said she wanted to be a boy, would you cut her hair off and buy her boy's clothing? Vice versa.

  • When i was ten, i wanted boy clothes and boy hair cut but i wasnt going to pretend to be a boy. My mother gave into a short girl cut and one pair of boy pants, but she was constantly criticizing me. If you dont let your child express themself they're going to end up resenting you after a while. If its what they want and it doesnt hurt anyone i say why not. I would let my boy dress as a girl and vice versa. It may only be a phase

  • No, I would not. I know a family who went so far as to even get boy underwear for their daughter because she wanted boy stuff. I would do a short girl hair cut and some not-too-girly clothes, but that would be as far as I would go.

  • I have a soon to be 4yo who just had his hair cut for the first time, has purple toe nails and loves to wear pink... So, yeah, if my daughter decides she wants to be a boy, more power to her...

  • why not..her hair will grow back n the clothes are just clothes. She's a little girl,as long as she isn't expecting her parents to call her by a boy's name what's the big deal.

  • Yeah, i'd let my son be a girl if he felt strongly about it. At that age they may just be playing, or it may develop into something bigger as they grow up. Either way, I don't really care as long as he's comfortable with himself.

  • If my young child said he/she wanted to dress and have hair like the opposite sex.  I would say NO to the child.  The child is to young IMO to make that choise. IMO

  • One can get gender neutral clothing and a gender neutral haircut, allowing their child to express themselves until they truly are of an age to completely know.

  • when I was little, my hair was cut short, I climbed trees and cought snakes and frogs. I liked to catch pollywogs and watch them turn into little frogs. I also liked to wear dresses-occasionally and sew diapers for my dollies. I think it would be a shame to tell a young child either boy or girl that they could not experience the joys of being an innocent CHILD. Adulthood comes quickly.

  • I see the vote-down fairy is here, so I will give her one more. Sorry, but no. I would not allow a daughter to present herself as a boy, nor would I allow a son to present himself as a girl.
