1 Bump

3 month old with mucus

My 3 m/o DS has alot of mucus in his stool... He has no other symptoms at all, all around a very happy little boy no fussiness or gas. But about every third dirty diaper is all mucous :/does anyone have a clue ? thanks

  • BF or FF? BF - could be a fore/hind milk imbalance or something you're eating. FF - could be a slight intolerance that doesn't bother him any other way.

  • sorry, he is EBF. he does eat about every two hours still an likes to cluster feed. Ive tried feeding laying on my back but no improvements :(

  • Not sure what laying on your back has to do with anything...but try block feeding - multiple feedings in a row on one side, no switching sides halfway through a feeding. After 3-4 sessions on one side, THEN switch, and do 3-4 feedings on that side.

  • some have said that laying flat on your back helps the hind milk and foremilk to mix

  • Hmm, okay, I've never heard that ;). Block feeding will "force" the hindmilk out, especially if baby is cluster feeding.

  • Try block feeding. www.kellymom.com has some great info on oversupply/overactive letdown. Mucus in stools can also indicate an intolerance to the protein in cow's milk, which means you would need to cut dairy out of your diet.
