Do you agree or disagree with the following statement:

Since there is no draft, and men and women willingly sign up for the military, they do not have the right to moan and gripe about what their job requires of them.

  • Ugh. I've heard this a few times from different people and I just want to pop them on the head (or worse). They don't show any support, they won't give to any charities, they roll their eyes when deployment is being discussed, etc, etc, all because "he knew what he was getting into."

Can you just imagine where we would be today if no one ever joined the military? I'd rather not.

  • People on every job complain from time to time. Why is the military different?

Answer by Anonymous at 12:24 AM on Dec. 11, 2008

  • I disagree with the statement.

  • Sometimes the military becomes a are entitled to complain & blow off stream once in a while about things on your job or career. They might be protecting our country but still its a job. It isnt like they are like ministers or priests complaining about spreading the word.

  • I'd like to add that everyone "volunteers" for their jobs... they apply and interview etc. but you aren't saying they shouldn't complain about their jobs.

they signed up for a job just like anyone else. they can gripe if they want to

  • Everybody gripes about their job. It's certainly easy to do that. The challenge is to improve things within the regulations.

Of course, if you joined the military and gripe about having to carry a weapon or fight in a war, you weren't paying attention before signing up.
