How do you get a toddler to stay in their bed?

We haven't switched Amanda's bed over to a toddler bed yet. She clibs outof her crib at naptime, but not at night. Suggestions?

  • Well how old is your daughter? most likley you should switch to a toddler bed by now since she climbs out of it...Almost every thing we have to do with out child as far as transitioning always takes time....when you put her in a toddler her book beffore she goes to sleep and let her know you are here if she needs you..IT WILL TAKE TIME FOR HER TO GET USED TO HER NEW BEDAND NEW RULES.....

  • Keep a consistant routine. Read her a story and let her sleep with a favorite toy. If she does get out take her back and reassure her. It'll take time for her to get used to it, so don't give up.

  • First time she gets out take her hand and say it's sleep time sweetie and put her back, 2nd time she comes out just say it's sleep time and put her back, 3+ times just put her back, no talking, no eye contact. I did this with my DD and it worked. Sidenote if she can climb out of the crib it's time for a toddler bed it's a lot safer for her to fall out of a toddler bed than if she falls while climbing out of a crib.

  • My daughter has been climbing out of the crib for months now. We do use the crib net that goes over the crib and zips up to keep her in the crib. you can find them at toys r us and healthy step I think is the name of it
