Are vetran benefits only given to vets who served war time?

  • If he was honorably discharged he is qualified for medical care, disability for any conditions he developed while active, and other assistance. Go to for more information and to apply for services. He will need his DD-214 and for medical all proof of income and his medical records.

  • And I believe they have to serve for at least 3 years to register for veterans benefits. Heard that on AFN the other day.

  • Joining the VFW requires service during war times. But look it up, they have many many years that qualify as war time.

  • yes. serving during peacetime you are still awarded benefits if retired.
