do you feel having a child(8,9 and 10 year olds) write in a journal every day as to what they have done for the Summer would be a good or bad idea(they suggested it themselves)?

I think it's a great idea! Not only is it reading and writing practice, but it will make them reflect on how exactly they are spending their time.

My parents gave me a diary as soon as I was learning to write, I think it really helped me in many ways - become a better writer, speller, reader, to deal with "life", very therapeutic!... I wrote in a diary (not daily as i got older) until I had my dd at 24yo - then I got out of the habit, but now I write a lot in her memory book.. I kept all my diary's through out the years in a small memory box i got at hobby lobby. It is very cute to go & read my first diary!! And maybe one day reading my own will help me parent my own child. They may want a diary (seen as for their eyes only!) & id 100% say THAT IS GREAT! Kids these days do not write or read nearly enough! I would let them go & pick out a diary with a lock so they feel their words are safe :) ..... I still remember getting my first! That lock (oh so cheap lock!). So it also teaches responsibility to keep hold of that key! :-)
