Why is it so hard for women to understand that doctors are NOT experts on human nutrition?

They are trained to diagnose and treat various health conditions and diseases. They are NOT trained in human nutrition. They are NOT dietitians.

Why is it so hard to understand that your pediatrician's advice is almost always WRONG when it comes to nutrition?

  • I'm totally with Obby here and don't understand why she is getting all this crap! There are thousands of doctors out there who may be educated, but they are drug whores, sold to the pharmecuetical industry, don't give a crap about your health. Not all, buy far too many!

  • Don't tell me what I've heard from my pediatrician. Maybe you should doing a little more research into YOUR pediatricians before talking smack about everyone else's.

  • Doctors act like they know it all, when as far as I'm concerned they know rather little, and people prefer to just assume the doctors have a clue than do any extra work to make sure they get the right information. "

Yea. Going to school for 10 + extra years teaches you nothing. But researching crap on the internet teaches you everything. Okay. IMO, the ones that act like they know it all and actually know rather little are some of the fanatic extremists on this site. They google something, then claim to be experts and recommend we completely ignore the advice of doctors. That makes a lot of sense, huh?

  • Did you know that in med school and while doing the prerequisites for med school, doctors take just about every nutrition class there is?

  • I like our pediatrician. She has taken excellent care of both of the children. She gives us advice on many things which I can choose to take simply because she says it OR get another opinion.

  • Yes, the know it alls on cafemom have actually researched MORE than your pediatrician, believe it or not. If it weren't true you wouldn't hear things from your pediatrician like, "there's no nutritional value in breastmilk after 12 months" and "if he bites you, you need to switch to formula" and "Rice cereal is the easiest thing for your baby to digest. So easy even, that if you feel that you must, it's okay to start them on it as early as 2 weeks old."

Yes, all brilliant advice from well-researched, well-educated people indeed.
