What do you put in your child's christmas stocking?

I usually do candy. But we are trying to get away from sugar a bit. So what are some other ideas?

  • Depends on girl or boy, and what age group. Everyone in my family is girls, so I usually put little bubble baths, play makeup (for kids), some smell good stuff (bath fizzies, body wash, body spray), DVDs or CDs, those humongous pencils....um I can't remember what else, but usually what I do is go to the dollar tree and get a whole bunch of cute little stuff to fill up stockings. I do usually fill up the bottom half with candy, but....you could go the sugar-free candy route, or just do a bunch of little cheap toys. For boys, I would probably do some little Hot Wheels and stuff like that.

  • We put no candy what so ever in there... My kids dont really eat it... I go get $1.00 items fron the Target binds at the front of the store, Movies, Hot Wheels, it depends on what your kids are into... Playdough, silly string cans, crayons, or do a treasure map leading to the "big santa gift"...

  • We do candy, too, and small presents.

My parents did the same, but there were oranges and apples with the candy...the fruit never got eaten - go figure ;)

  • I always put a toothbrush in my kids and even hubby's. When I made a stocking for a good friend, I put one in hers too! We also get small toys for the stockings, and only put a little candy. Our boy gets cars, while our girl gets pens, pencils, tiny notebooks, and what not.
