I have two sons. We requested the school to let our children to go on a trip due to a family emergency. The trip to Europe would take us about 2 weeks to return. The school principal said that it will be no problem as long as a had a writing request explaining the situation. Nothing complicated we completed all the documentation and we went for our trip. As soon as we returned we had a visit from CPS around 8pm at night. My dh explained and show all the documents and give specific detail of the conversations with the school principal. The CPS agent said that the school file a child abuse and neglect because our children were missing school. I want to do something against the school for this. We are so angry. We are concern now that our names are going to be place in the CPS files as "criminals". What can we do? The school is almost over .

I don't think there is anything you can do legally, but I would file a formal complaint with the school district and demand a letter goes to CPS noting their mistake. Clearly all of your paperwork never made it to your file and they forgot about your situation. Unacceptable!!!! Gosh it isn't like they have many students leaving to Europe during the year, wouldn't your names ring a bell?! This is unbelievable!
