Live & Learn (Sunscreen mishap!)

Well, I let my 9 y/o dau & her friend do their own sunscreen before going swimming yesterday. That's not happening again, unless I am there to directly supervise the process! My poor baby is burned in the places she missed. Thankfully we keep the Aloe Gel in the fridge for just such an occasion!  How old were your kids when they no longer needed your help w/ this?

  • I buy my 9 and 11 yo's the kind with the tint in it so they can see where they are putting it. They do it themselves, but I do their back.

  • My sister did her own senior year when she went to the beach after the prom. She missed spots and burned. I guess I'll stop at 21 if my kids take after their aunt.

  • I still put it on my 16 year old. how can they get their own back?

Answer by mompam at 2:01 PM on Jun. 13, 2011

  • Ok- I know about the backs- that's kinda obvious- besides she has a tankini & long hair, so most of her back is covered. But I even asked, did you get your faces, your arms- etc- & got a "yes" from them both. I like the idea of the tinted kind- I will add that to my shopping list! :)

  • happy2bmom25: as opposed to skin cancer from the sun?! I guess we will take our chances- there are known carcinogens in just about everything!
