WH to cut access to 1/2 of gov't websites...that's transparency??

As part of the Obama administration’s campaign to promote transparency, the White House announced today it intends to eliminate the public’s access to half of the federal government’s websites within the next year.

The White House said there are nearly 2,000 websites operated by the federal government, which it said confuses people.

So, since it might confuse people, they will eliminate 1/2 of them. Hmmm, Okay, I guess their definition of transparency is different then mine.

Thoughts?

  • The White House said there are nearly 2,000 websites operated by the federal government, which it said confuses people.

“With so many separate sites, Americans often do not know where to turn for information,” the office of Vice President Joseph Biden Jr. said in a statement. “The administration will immediately put a halt to the creation of new websites. The administration will also shut down or consolidate 25% of the 2,000 sites over the next few months and set a goal of cutting the number of separate, standalone sites in half over the next year

--- They are CONSOLIDATING, eliminating duplications and waste....trying to SIMPLIFY the sites. NOT hide anything.

  • Good idea, saves money , which is what you seem to want as we are always hearing about waste in Washington and how there is no transparency anyway .

  • They are shutting down 1/2 and consolidating 25%....by my count they are shutting down a lot of them completely.

That's what some of us said about Planned Parenthood, but apparently redundancy and waste is ALLOWED to be government funded for PP.... Interesting...

  • Well, they are cutting access because we are too dumb to understand them. They are just helping.

  • So they aren't actually SAVING anything with half of them....they are just fixing it so "we the people" have no access to the sites. Gotcha! You gotta love the transparency!

  • Joe Biden (and all of his transparent friends) need their butts kicked (and I'm not certain I don't mean kicked over the nearest border so they really can go peddle this crap somewhere else).

  • I can't imagine why we need 1000 websites. I think merging some and eliminating some is probably a good idea and totally unrelated to transparency in anyway.

Congrats on making a mountain out of a molehill that doesn't even exist though! Quite a talent!

  • Bravo! I just spent 2 days trying to navigate through the medicare/medicaid/assisted living/senior housing areas of those sites. They need to be consolidated and made more clear and connected. It's about time.
