  • Near as I can tell, it's refering to something that you wouldn't find in a more elite store. High street would refer to the way markets were set up in midevil times, the more affulent shops would have the higher locations, because it was common practice to throw chamber pots and such into the streets and that sort of stuff flows downhill, not to mention horse and other animal dung. They'd be cleaner shops, with higher quality products.
