Are there any things a mom can do to ensure that her 10 yo doesn't get constipated again?

Our son was referred to have X-Ray done. The diagnosis after receiving the results from the X-Rays: "Constipation". Doctor recommended an enema and nothing else.

  • lots of water and fiber. Ask the doctor if he would recommend a soluble fiber supplement. You can get ones anymore than dissolve completely clear in water and are tasteless.

  • Gosh, don't do an enema unless you have to. There is a big chance of tearing the walls of the rectum, which causes infection. They stopped recommending them years ago. Take her to McDonald;s,. It might sound funny, but there are a lot of children these days that aren't getting enough grease in their diets. I'm not talking all the time, just for a meal. You can also add fruits. Anything but bananas, they constipate. Get a big bottle of juice and let her drink it. There are also plenty of laxatives on the market that are perfectly safe if taken at the right dosage.
