Making mac and cheese more interesting

What do you add to make it more interesting? The oven version of mac and cheese not the box.

  • there's a recipe on the campbell's cheddar cheese soup for mac and cheese, it only makes enough to be a side dish but it was wonderful! you use rotini instead of elbow mac, then melt butter into breadcrumbs for a topping (which i think you probably do with any baked version, but it's so good).

  • tomatoes, bacon, ham, spinach or even a little ground beef, those are all pretty good but no longer mac and cheese to me. I personally am a Mac and Cheese Purist. I like it just cheese please. ;0)
