Housing allowance

DH and I are looking for a bigger place since i just moved down here and I have 3 kids and one on the way but he says that i need a job first. Since he gets housing allowance why do we have to wait. My question is how much do they pay or how does that all wrk? I'm new to all this military talk and I dont much of it.

  • you could get on the housing list and see what they have available for you. As far as housing allowance just google BAH and you can input your hubby's rank and zip code and find out what your rate is.. it's pretty simple it isn't based on how many kids just dependents or no dependents. Where is here BTW?

  • You do not need a job first, I don't know what he is talking about. You have two choices, military housing or taking the housing allowance, which is different, depending on where you live. They take an average of what rents are in the area and give you that amount towards your rent. It will come right on his pay, you will see it on the LES. (That's like his paystub). Military housing is good for people who's children are not too messy or do things like color on the walls or anything. They are very particular when you move out. Although you don't have to worry about having to move or a jerk of a landlord either. You only pay utilities. If you just got married, he should be going in and letting them know so you all get your dependent benefits and they will automatically give you the housing allowance.
