I have twin girls age ten and my husband has a ten yr old boy. We take them to the community swimming pool-have season pass. We leave them one of our cell phones and drop them off.

They sometimes want to bring a friend. I of course let the mom know that I dont stay with my kids at the pool. The mom's dont agree with what I do.  Opinions Please!

  • Some parents know how responsible their children are, but for me I would not feel comfortable having my son at the pool w/out me or his father directly supervising.

  • I don't think it's appropriate to leave 3 10 year olds at the pool for the lifeguards to have to watch. JMO, though.

  • Most community pools have rules about the child must be at least 16 to be there without an adult. I am surprised that your's doesn't have something like that. Anyways, my opinion is that I wound not drop a 10 year old off at the community pool and then leave.

  • I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with 3+ 10 year olds at a pool alone either. Y'all know your kids best, but I would be leery of letting my child do the same thing. Having worked at a pool and talking with the lifeguards there, unsupervised kids are some of the WORST behaved kids there.

  • I also don't think it's appropriate to leave 10 year olds at a pool without an adult.

  • When I was 8, my sister was 10 we went to the pool every day by ourselves. We walked there, went swimming and walked home. When our parents signed up for the season pass they filled out information so the pool could contact them if they needed (and never did). We were responsible kids, so there were never issues. In fact, I don't think anyone had parents with them unless they were little..

I also live in a small town, where everyone knows everyone. So I guess it just depends on you, your family, your community.. etc. :-)

  • The pool rules are no unnatended children 8 or younger. I drive a school bus so I know who some of those WORST behaved kids are. Lol My twin girls act more matture at ten then my 14 yr old boy. Anyways just started to question what I was doing after talking to these moms.

  • I have to agree with your children's friends. I would not let my child go to a pool without adult supervision. It is not the lifeguards job to babysit the children the afternoons they are at the pool. You never know what could happen or who could be watching you leave them. It just is not safe this day in time.

  • Thats tuff because like many others I'd never leave my 10 yr olds at a pool unattended, accidents happen and cause death, I'd never forgive myself. And half the lifeguards i have seen DO NOT pay attention like they should. Most are barely 16 and make minimum wage.
