Is it true that over 50% of Americans don't pay federal income taxes?
Is it true the ones who do pay taxes are taxed at a rate between 25-40%?

Actually I think it's 46% that pay no income tax. Federal taxes aren't as high as 40%, I think it's 35% for the top wage earners, but if you add in state and local taxes, you'll be close if not more than 40%.
Here is a great chart I found. It breaks down the income groups, how many in each group by filing and what that group paid. The middle class pays the most in because there are many more in that income group. They don't pay a higher % of their income but as a group there are more filers.

Hypothetical or actual dollars paid? I do believe there is one poster here who claims she never pays more than 10%. I can only say what we pay, and it's on the higher end, far more than 10%...we are part of that non entitled middle group-
