1 Bump

My ten month old has regular full poopy diapers in the morning. The past two days his poop has been black. Does anyone know why? Is this cause for concern?/or a trip to the pediatrician?

  • Black just means there is too much iron in his system and your body rids extra vitamins, minerals, etc. through the bm and urine. There is no cause for concern unless it is tarry, coffee ground like, or has blood.

  • It is normal,it could be due to the food he is eating or something he is drinking.

  • Any chance he drinks a lot of grape juice or other dark purple drink? That can cause black looking stool.

  • I have had that happen on a couple of occassions all of which I just called the dr to be on the safe side and got some expert opinions over the phone from someone who knows my sons health history and it was instant peace of mind.

  • Black poop could mean that he's got blood in his poop. Talk to the doctor about getting a test to rule this out. Has there been a change in diet that might explain this? If it's blood, it could be from a food allergy.
