  • My cat is losing hair and starting to go bald in some spots. the vet said she has an allergic reaction to something in the house. Weve switched her food, changed shampoos, cleaners, detergents, everything. We have no idea what it could be.

  • We had a cat with allergies to something in cheap food. We had some cheap dog food, and whenever she got into it, her skin broke out. We put her on a low-allergen diet (one we bought at the vet's), and her skin and hair turned beautiful in just a few days. She does well with some foods, but not others. Cheap supermarket dog food, very very bad for her.

  • It could be a food allergy or a contact allergy; meaning something in the home or something you use on her. Laundry soaps & softners are a big culprit, as kitty lays on what you wash. Air freshner sprays, perfumes etc. If she isnt treated for fleas, then yes it could be a flea allergy. If she is treated for fleas with a topical flea treatment, she could be allergic to the one you use. Did you vet do a skin scraping to see if she has mites? Mites do not affect just the ears. In either case, vets should do a skin scraping. And no it isnt painful. They scrape an area gently onto a slide, then look at it under the microscope. Food allergies are usually caused by corn, wheat, or soy, which is in ALL the junk grocery store food. Try a grain free food such as Wellness canned & dry. There is also Natural Balance food which has a style just for allergies. Petco carries it. Transition to a new food slowly.

  • Cats can be allergic to just about anything. i had a cat that was allergic to other cats. I had to keep him on daily allergy meds or he would loose his hair and sneeze all the time. The only way to know what exactly a cat is allergic to is to do an allergy test, which must be done by a vet.
