Straight white vinegar and a roll of paper towels! I had a dog in a crate, who had an explosive bowel movement while I was out of the house. She tried to aim it out of the crate, so got it on the walls and new beige carpet. It had already dried. I removed what I could with paper towel. Then I sprayed with white vinegar and blotted with paper towel. Sprayed with vinegar, blotted with paper towel. I repeated this for about ten minutes until the stain was gone! The odor was gone as well, even the wall came clean.
I have had some good luck with Spot Shot carpet stain remover. Whenever white vinegar doesn't work, that is my second choice. I've had Spot Shot remove ink stains from white carpeting, and old urine stains from carpeting when we bought a home. I used Spot Shot first on the tough spots, then cleaned the carpet with a rented carpet shampooer. All clean!
