  • For co-workers, friends, people you know etc.. it is earned over time.. But in a relationship, I don't see how you can have one if you don't respect each other.. Its either there or it's not... Trust is earned over time, but respect should be there from the beginning of the relationship..

  • A little of both. I believe being polite and kind to people is respect, and type of respect should be automatic. Respect in other ways is earned.

  • a basic level of respect should be automatic. assume the best in people and they will assume the best in you too--at least most of the time. there is a level of respect that you have for others that needs to be earned (e.g. the respect for those you look up to, or those in different situations than your own).

    TRUST on the other hand should be earned over time. :-)

  • earned over time. hubbys parents think i automatically should respect them even though they talk so much shit about me.. i dont think so! gotta give respect in order to get it.. an they clearly arnt.
