Dry herbs and activating?

I'm making a meal tomorrow with a recipe I have never used. Saw it on GMA and it looks really yummy. It calls for fresh herbs, but was told I could use dry herbs but I may need to activate the herb? What the heck is that and how do I activate a herb?

  • yes that is right...the heat will bring out the oils of the herbs..."activate"

  • If there is anything in the recipe you need to saute, toss the dry herbs in at the end of the cooking time and let them heat up for a min or so. Add the herbs with the veggies.

  • To activate dried herbs, you can rub them between your palms to release any of the essential oils that might be left.
