start small and simple. Add one or 2 things at a time. IF you all of a sudden expect everything from your children there is going to be a back lash because it is confusing. Try pairing a big issue with a small issue if you want things to go more smoothly - for example you can pair a dish washing schedule with putting their shoes in the right spot. Whatever you do don't just yell at them for not getting it right off. Explain why things need to be done they way they are being done and ask for their help and input. Kids do a lot better when there is more of a team mentality than a me vs you mentality.
