Can a 6 yr old be tired during the day even though they didn't play hard?

Ok, my daughter is 6 and can sleep almost 12 hours, if not that. Since school has been out, she has gone to sleep like after 10:30 or later, because she just lays there and talks to herself or makes excuses to talk to us. She finally goes to sleep, and wakes up anywhere from 9-10:30. It's obvious that's it's my fault because I don't work, and I don't get her up early because of summer. So when it comes to lunch or dinner, she says i'm tired and doesn't eat, until she decides at the last minute. Or I think it might that she doesn't want what we are eating. Oh I don't, I have no idea what to do with her. AHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Maybe get her out and more active. When kids laze around it can cause them to be tired. I think if she gets more activity she may not go through the mid afternoon exhaustion.

  • I think it is normal summer behavior topped with maybe a growth spurt. Get her outside and get her active.

  • If she is sleeping later and you want her up earlier, start bedtime earlier.

  • I think it's ok, but you could try adjusting her schedule.

  • You can get her hormones and thyroid checked. If she is really over tired it can be a hormone problem.
