How old were your kids when they started being afraid of things at bedtime?

My 2 1/2 year old is all of a sudden afraid of seeing things outside his window or of hearing noises in the house when he's going to bed, so I'm stuck with him in his room for over an hour. I don't want to abandon him or force him to stay in bed, and I want to help him get over irrational fears (I know, he's 2). Any advice? Normal for the age?

  • Yes it's normal. He is at an age where his brain is progressing at a fast rate and he is thinking about and seeing thinks in a whole new prospective.. All of a sudden something as simple as a laundry basket looks like a monster. Try a nightlight; and best of luck to you!
