  • My daughter started saying words clearly at about 17-18 months and then once she was about 22-24 months is when she started talking in phrases and sentences! Everyone is different though.

  • This varies a great deal from child to child. By 1 yr a child should be able to say several recognizable words, not truly clear speech.

  • Between two and three I think is when it's really noticeable how much they are learning to talk, my DD is 2 1/2 and says new words every day some I have no idea where she even heard it. But she still has her moments of jibber jabber and you can't understand anything she says haha.

  • Every child is different, some might have great language before they even turn 1, others might not till around 3.

My daughter was advanced with language and had many words saying 2-3 word sentences by 12 months old, with very good pronounciation. Her first word was at 4 mths old

My son on the other hand is complete opposite, currently 15 months old and only has a handful of words that all sound the same, such as car, cat, yuck, book all sound like "ka", dad and dog sound like "gah" etc

  • Depends on the kids. My twins were 3 before they could speak in short sentences, my younger daughter was doing the same at 12 months. They are all in school now and doing very well.
