What does someone mean when they say their relationship is "complicated"?

  • this person is a friend of mine, I have been asking him what he means by that and he refuses to answer but yet he wants us to be honest with each other to build an honest friendship

  • It means either one of them is thinking about leaving the other, their relationship is not working out, or one of them could be married (or both of them are) or separated.

  • Usually i think it means they are not a committed couple or they argue a lot and are considering breaking up. OR the man is into you and wants to entice you to chase him.
