(Christians) Do you kneel to pray?

Just wondering. My grandmother says no one actually kneels to pray... I disagree.

  • Catholics do, Orthodox do too I think and I remember going to this church when I was really little and they knelt to pray, but it wasn't Catholic, maybe Episcopalian? I don't remember, but I think a lot of Christians kneel to pray at least in Church anyway.

  • Not all the time..I'm usually pacing the floors, shouting to the heavens. Like okmanders, if I'm at a total loss for words and spirit is low, I may kneel. I do a lot of my praying outdoors...I feel closer, when I can look around at nature, because I see God in nature..naturally.

  • It depends on what I am doing. I could be sitting on the potty or standing in the shower, or in the store, or laying in bed after I've already prayed.

I pray whenever and not just on my knees although I do pray on my knees too.

  • Sometimes for family prayer...usually not though because I've got some messed up kneecaps that makes it hard.

  • I have, and when my kids and I pray before they go to bed we do.

In my own regular prayer time I sit at a table, because I write while I pray. It helps me stay on track. I am too ADD and get distracted easily (squirrel!). Even without writing, I need a position where I can stay that way for a loooong period, and after 10-15 minutes my legs would fall asleep kneeling!

As for prayer time with my kids, we kneel because we are showing this time is different time. We are respecting God by stilling our wiggling bodies and focusing on talking to Him. I've told my kids they can talk to God anytime, but at bedtime we kneel to help us focus.

Of course quick prayers are offered up while driving, eating, running, etc. ... I don't have to stop to pray!

  • real quickly kneeling is done by Catholics for prayers but also a sign of worship and reverence towards the Lord. We deal during the transubstantiation (spelling? )

  • no coz once I'm down I can't get back up without sounding like a bowl of rice crispies...snap crackle pop. Churches I've been a member of people just bow their heads close their eyes and pray.

  • In the Eastern Catholic church we hardly ever kneel to pray. We stand...for hours! Some churches don't even have pews or chairs. We traditionally kneel before venerating an icon or relic but it's more of a prostration than kneeling.
In my personal prayers I don't kneel, I stand because that's what I'm used to.
