  • I did with my 3rd.

    It has magical powers of pain relief and relaxation, especially for back labor. I could go on for hours about how awesome it is, I wish I had been able to do it with all 3! Unfortunately, NC has some really bad women's health care centers.

    There aren't any cons- except, maybe, getting wet? lol

    Infection = Myth
    Baby breathing water = Myth

    Though, you'll hear someone say those two things, undoubtedly. There is no supporting medical evidence for it, only against it.

  • Pros; relaxation , shorter labors, privacy and control, bouyance weight takin off of ur hips. Coping with pain(the water helps alot), Constant presence of a doula
    Hospital protocols state that a doula must be with you all the time you are in the birthing pool.
    less risk of a tear!!

    cons : infection
    Disappointment with level of pain relief
    You may find that being in the birthing pool does not make contractions less painful. If your plan was to spend most of your labour in water, it could be very demoralising to have to get out so that you can have drugs, such as an epidural, for pain relief.

    • Emergency situations
    It may take time to get you out of the pool if an emergency arises.
