What kinds of inexpensive things do you like to do with your kids in the summer?

With summer here and the kids home and not much money I wanted to get some ideas on fun things we can do

  • Hit up Dollar Tree, Christmas Tree Shop or Target dollar zone for some cheap things like chalk, bubbles, water guns, water baloons, etc. Any good hiking trails around? Pack a lunch & go! By the water? Go for a swim. Fishing? Poles are cheap at walmart & kids dont need a license. By the ocean? Hop on a boat for a ride for the day if you have any services our ferries here are cheap & the kids love to ride them. Go for a bike ride.

  • We go to the "water park" at the pool at the local YMCA. It's just a kids pool with some fountains and splashy things and a slide lol. $5 for me, $3 for him. Sometimes we go to the beach but I absolutely hate crowded beaches so we don't do it that often. If it isn't too hot we'll go to the park. I guess we have it easy because there really isn't much we can do in the summer than we can't do all year long.

  • We have a pool so we spend alot of time in it. I also take the kids to the state park they have a swimming area roped off on a lake. Its around $5 a car load. We also go to free movies on Tues and Thurs mornings. They show last years kids movies for free. It is through Marquee Cinema which is Nationwide so you can check and see if you have one, if not ask your local movie people if they have a similar program. We also have free movies on weekends downtown. We have waffle cone Wednesdays you get them for 99 cents. On monday and wedsay we can rent movies and video games for 99 cents as well.
We go to the park. Visit friends. One park has water spouts so thats free and fun. We also pay to go to the movies matinees if something is worth watching.

  • go to the park, (they have a nice park in olcott.. which is across the street from the beach.. you can cook out there, play in the water park they have, or on the play ground, or go across the street to the beach on lake ontario, or check out the cute little shops on the water front.. just osooo much to do there)..

or we go to the yacht club, my parents are members (dad's the commodore). So we hang out, can go boating, relax on their patio or the boat.. or go swimming at the pool.

  • also we can just go outside and play in the back yard, riding bikes, or go to the zoo (it's pretty cheap admission for things like that, just pack your own food and such). some fair grounds are nice (oh I forgot Olcott has a seasonal carnival, open on weekends we go to.. VERY cheap and great for little ones between 2-7)
we can also do nature walks.. letchworth state park is only an hour drive and very beautiful to walk around and through.
