Large objects are best for little hands that are learning. Large soft blocks to stack are always good. Large puzzles that have only a few pieces; plastic cars or trucks that don't have small pieces that can come off and placed in the mouth; a large bouncey ball, an outdoor swing, a small wagon to place his toys in and pull. Plastic containers to organize and store his toys is also a very good item. These help you to teach him to put his toys away and also the skill of sorting. Fun bedding is always nice too, or a soft cozy blanket with his favorite color or lots of primary colors is a good choice. Lastly, kid size plate, bowl and cup setting is fun.
