Sore gums

In the last couple months when I floss (I tend to floss in the evening before bed) I will wake up late and my gums will be inflamed and sore. It hurts to clench my teeth. I have to take pain meds to get back to sleep. I went to the dentist this morning for my routine cleaning and my hygienist said it might be related to changing hormones and asked if I noticed it more around my time of the month. I hadn't until she asked.

Have any of you had a problem like this? It's only gotten bad in the last month of so.
