2 Bumps

Aww man. my doctor did a pap smear for my last check up at 24 weeks pregnant. they called me today telling me that my pap smear came back slightly abnormal. My first reaction was will the baby be okay, and they said the baby will be fine. so I feel better, but I am obviously, a little upset and worried. Has anything like this happened to you or friends?

  • I had that happen with my younger DD. Scared me too. But, it's not uncommon to have some abnormal cell formations while pregnant. As a precaution, they took a few "snip-its" from my cervix to make sure there wasn't something serious going on. Test results showed everything was just fine. After I delivered, they abnormal cells were still there. My Gyno just removed them via cryosurgery (just an in-office procedure where they froze the cells). I had to have a pap every 6 months just to make sure the abnormal cells didn't grow back. They never did. That was now 32 years ago.

  • They aren't even supposed to do paps during pregnancy. The hormones can cause false positives. Find a new doctor who doesn't suck!

  • Baby will be fine, but there are a variety of things that can cause that. Not usually anything that needs to be taken care of during pregnancy. They'll do another at your 6 week follow up and see what's going on. Hopefully everything will be fine!

  • Was it a pap smear or a quad marker? Because I had an abnormal quad marker and it was a 10% chance our last baby could have Downs Syndrome. Everything turned out to be fine.

  • i have to get a pap smear every 6 months now. they didn't seem too concern so i am not going to stress about it, as long as it doesn't harm her, then i'll just continue to enjoy my pregnancy.

  • I had this happen with my oldest child. I remember being scared to death when they told me. I had to go for check ups and pap smears every 6 months. After 1 1/2 everything was coming back normal and I was fine.

Good Luck and try to relax!

  • Could be anything. You may have a little infection that needs to be treated. Do you have to go back in??
