My daughter has had contractions all day, need some help

My daughter is 41+2 into her pregnancy, second child. First labor was intense with contractions starting out three minutes apart and painful. Today she started having painless contractions at eight, coming every three to five minutes all day. She lost a lot of mucous. She has done housework, gone shopping, tried to rest. The painless contractions continue but do not intensify. Any ideas what is going on or how to get this into active labor? Thanks.

  • sounds like she is just lucky the contractions aren't that intense. Call her doctor and see when they want her to come in for a check to see if she is dilating. Remember every pregnancy is different. Pain from contractions are more from the position of the baby then anything else.

  • Bring her in, they may help her along.

  • This is called pre labor, or prodromal labor. It can last a while, or it can mean that this time is easier for her, and it is painless until her water breaks. She can try using a breast pump to get the contractions to intensify, and also take a warm bath. Good luck!

  • My SIL had a virtually painless birth. Have her relax, drink lots of fluids, eat something yummy and go in if labor continues =)

  • Sounds like she is in very early labor. I would try to get her mind off of it, and do something fun or relaxing together. Sounds like she could have the baby within the next week. Personally I feel that you should ignor your labor until it demands your attention... then you know for sure you are in labor! Have patience and good luck! :)

  • Just an update. The contractions have become painful and are 2.5 minutes apart lasting about 50 seconds. Thanks for the input!
