What are great non-expensive things to do with boys 8 years of age?

My son is having company and I want them to have a blast.

  • Oh we loved our slip and slide! Water balloons too! Actually my kids are even content to leap through the sprinkler.

Play tag. basketball. throw a base ball around. bike riding. Toss a football?

are they into pokemon cards or legos? My son and his friends always get lost in a box of Bionicle parts or a game of Bakugan or even a game a chess.

Honestly, when DS (who will be 9 next week) has friends over, I just make some snacks and let them go about their business. they find plenty to do without my input (must of what I listed above for example.) We have been making a lot of glow-in-the-dark chalk with the Crayola kits for my kids and their neighborhood friends. They all have a blast (ages 6 to 10)

  • at that age...i'm sure they'll find plenty of ways to entertain themselves...just provide food/snacks/drinks...and they're good to go!

  • games, water fight, football, soccer, go to the park, geo caching if you have gps on your phone and want to go on a scavenger hunt. Put them out back and let them use their imaginations.

  • Boys are better than girls at entertaining themselves, IMHO. Unless your son requests something special, just let them follow their interests. If a movie they like is coming up, that could be fun, or just the sprinkler or slip and slide. I'm sure your son has some sports equipment, they would like that.
