Will they

Will a bank let me cash or deposit a check that has our last name as West on it instead of Wells?
My daughter's boyfriend is 16 and coming to visit-but his parents would not buy his plane ticket so we had to do it (they didn't "trust those sites" turn he gave his aunt (theonly person who would help him with this in any way) the  money he had saved toward it and she wrote and mailed us a check, but she wrot the last name wrong. This has already been a huge pain in that arse- since his family has no desire to help him out in any way- we are lucky they will take him to the damn airport! I don't even know this person who wrote it! Grr

  • ok as a bank teller , depending on a the bank, they might do it and have you sign it both ways, but they could also not cash it, either depending on how well you know them b/c technically there could be someone with the same first name and that last name ... i know i have had to turn some people away with checks like that :(

  • Deposit it in the ATM.

Techincally the bank should not accept it, but if you put it in the ATM they probably won't notice. In order for them to then come back to you, the writer of the check would have to state that you were not the intended recipient of the check, and the bank would have to prove you maliciously attempted to cash a check that is not yours.

  • Depends on how well you know your bank, and how observant the tellers are. My guess is that the tellers won't be observant enough to even notice the difference. If they do notice, you can explain the story.

  • You should be able to get by with it if you just deposit it- you can also write Wells beside West & initial it & it should be fine! GL! That was really nice of you to help your daughters boyfriend out when his parents were being Jerks!
