How often do your kids spend the weekend at Grandmas?

I swear my mom has withdrawal after 2 weeks!

  • I have 3 kids. The longest either grandmother can handle is one night per child, on separate nights. I cannot remember the last time anyone spent the night at grandma's house. It has to be at least 2 years. My older kids will occasionally get a night or 2 at their aunt's place.

  • Some grandmas adore having the kids over, and some grandmas would rather you visited and left the kids at home, but brought pictures of them. Hopefully, between Mom's parents, Dad's parents, and maybe a step-parent's parents, you can find at least one older person who will adore your kids! If not, consider adopting an older person in your community.

I don't have my grandchild spend the night very often, but I babysit her (for free) five days a week. A couple of times I've kept her overnight so her mom could go out with friends, but I live in a small apartment. If life were perfect, and I had my place out in the country, I'd want to have her spend one night a week with me, and I wouldn't babysit any more.

  • We live 100 miles away from grandparents, but my mom is great about trying to keep the kids. 2 weeks ago she kept my daughter for 3 nights and my son has been with Grandma for a week. (we are going to get him today)

  • Never. We live on the other side of the country from my mil. My mom died when my oldest was a couple months old. It will be years before they see my mil or my dad again because we can't afford to travel with 5 kids and they are all poorer than we are so they can't come see us (they're also disabled).

  • Never. My mom doesn't do the "babysitting" thing.. And SO's mom lives too far away to get them regularly but I know if we lived closer she would probably have them a lot!!
