  • Annika. It's my absolute favorite name, and my middle daughter's. My other two girls are Tamara and Krysta. But Annika is Polish nickname of endearment for "Anne". It is also Scandinavian. There was an Annika in the Pippi Longstocking books. There is an Annika in sports, I think she's a golfer. We pronounce it "Ah -Nick- ah" so that it would rhyme with the Jewish festival of lights, "Hanukkah". Some silly relatives of ours mispronounce it like Americans like to do, saying "Anne-ika", with the first "A" sound like the a in "and".

My Annika's middle name is "Laurie". So, she could be "Annie Laurie" - like the song, but she has never gone by the nickname Annie. It is always Annika. Isn't it even pretty just to see it in print?
