How many books should a mom read too their kid per day?

I read about 1 or 2 a day too my 1 yr old daughter

  • I am not sure that it is the quantity but rather the amount of time spent reading. I think that a parent should read at least 15-20 minutes a day to a toddler and this does not have to be all at the same time.

    My DD, 2, won't let me get by with only 15-20 minutes though. She wants at least a good hour out of my hubby and I. She will even accept me reading my boring school books out loud to her.

    Because of all the reading that she enjoys, she is already pre-reading and has a giant vocabulary. :)

  • I don't think there is a set amount. I read several books to my son before nap and several again before bedtime, and then throughout the day as he wants. But I read 3-4 short books, or 1-2 longer books at a sitting.

  • I agree. I don't pay attention to how many books we read because he has a couple "big boy" books that I actually have to corner off at a certain point because he's getting sleepy. My husband and I will usually read to him for about 10 minutes before his nap and before his bedtime.
