When did you stop on demand breastfeeding and go to a schedule?

I've heard negatives for either method. I am currently on the on demand, but my daughter eats small amounts constantly through the day and I would be able to get things done and feel a bit saner if she were on a bit of a schedule.
Tell me what you think...

  • I always fed on demand, but after a while my little ones put themselves on a schedule.

  • Always fed on demand. Just worked out for me that way.

  • I always fed on demand, too. Does your little one use a paci? Maybe she is just using you as the pacifier.

  • Always on demand. Babies know when they need to eat. I actually tried putting him on a schedule (for everything, not just feeding), and he fought me every step of the way. Feeding on demand is just what worked for us. However, as they get a little older, they eat less frequently, and they do sort of fall into a schedule (not 100% on schedule, but you'll find a rhythm).

  • Never had a set schedule - just fed her when she was hungry. She ate about every hour but she had severe GERD and needed it that way.

  • My son started to put himself on a feeding schedule around 8-9 months. Before that he ate all throughout the day and night at random times. Now he is extremely predictable.

  • i have always nursed my dd on demand. i never scheduled feedings. although, after 2, i think i put her off if it wasn't a good time for me.

  • I had mine on a flexible schedule since birth. I always followed their lead, and if they were hungry at an "off time" I went ahead and fed them (growth spurts), but then I got back on schedule by feeding them again at the next scheduled time.

  • Never went off demand feeding. A sling will let you get things done.

  • Never really. The demand slowed down as they got older and they pretty much made their own schedule, but if they happened to want to nurse "off" schedule, I would not make them wait.
