How to explain bad dreams?

My 4-year-old awoke (for the first time) from a "bad dream" -- she was visibly shaken and said she dreamed that "some lady" had her and wouldn't take her to mommy -- instead took her to play at a park? My DD said she wouldn't play, and instead kept wanting her mom. How do you explain bad dreams to children??

  • My son has had so many bad dreams. I just tell him it was a story/movie in his head and that he is home and safe, sometimes we have good dreams, others are not always good, just reminder her she is ok and home and safe.
