How much milk at 1 week old?

My baby boy is 11 days old and he is eating 3 ounces every three hours but I think he wants more (he just keeps rooting and mouthing like hes he fusses about it). is 4 ounces of milk too much at this little? does it really matter, he isnt spitting up at all?

  • My son was up to about 5-6 Oz at that age, he also had a pacifier.

  • Bottle feeding? Try a pacifier. He wants to suck. If you were breastfeeding. he'd do non-nutritive suckling to meet that craving.

  • Depends on the size of the baby. If he's still acting like he's hungry and not spitting, give him some more.

    He needs approx. 120 cal/kg/day for growth.
    Each ounce of standard formula or breast milk contains 20 cal.
    1KG= 2.2 lbs-

  • I'd probably suggest a little more frequent feedings.

  • 4 ounces sounds like too much at that age. You can try it.
