Is this fair?

We were at a chain store yesterday(known for phones,cameras,...) and DH finds a cell phone for $30.00 and decides he wants it. We go to check out and rep says $89.00,we are like no sale price is 30. Well the sale was over the day before but signs were still displayed,we got the phone for sale price but the manager had to make up the difference from his own pocket. He said it was his responsibility since he didn't notice sale was still posted.there was not a time limit or date on sign when sale started/ended.

  • It's actually a law that they have to honor the advertised price. It's completely fair.

  • Yes it's fair. The manager was responsible for the display of the sign, and it is law that they have to honor the price on the sign.

  • they have to honor the sale price is the signs are still up it is their mistake for not making sure the signs are taken down. I have had this happen on several occasions they don't like it but they do have to honor the sale price; glad the manager took the initiative and gave you the sale price

  • i'm glad they gave you sale price because thats the law but i dont think a big chain store would make the manager make up the difference no that wrong.....but maybe its in his contract..?

  • If the sign is up they have to honor it. I doubt if the manager really had to make up the difference though. I think he was just telling you that so you'd feel sorry for him.

  • i worked retail when i was putting myself thru nursing school. The manager was playing you.

what it did was probably cost him his bonus. but he didn't actually have to pay for it out of his own pocket.
