Do you serve alcohol at family parties when kids are invited?

We are a non drinking family but IMO when kids are also invited I think alcohol is wrong, the parents will drink then drive away having their kids in the car. Also alcohol can lead to altercations and that is not something kids should see, once again IMO

  • No. We don't drink and we only buy soda and water when we have get togethers.

  • Yes I do. We're all adults, enjoying adult beverages. A drink or two with people who understand moderation and maturity does not lead to altercations or children seeing drunk adults behaving like idiots. I'd rather my kids see adults drink responsibly than grow up thinking its horribly taboo and more likely to wind up drunken idiots themselves because they only have their peers to look to for an example of how to drink.

  • Yes but we make sure that no one who drinks too much drives home. We offer them a place to crash if it gets to that point.

  • Sure we do, but there is always a designated driver for each family and nobody has more than a couple of drinks. Also we have learned who can behave nicely when drinking and for those that can't, we don't serve them alcohol.

I see nothing wrong with a drink or two at a family party.

  • We dont drink.

  • we drink, on occassion, not as an everyday thing. But when we have had people over we never buy liquor that is going to get someone wasted in one drink, usually serve beer or wine, nice low percentage of alcohol. We are adult enough to know our limits. No one gets to that billigerent state where altercations are happening or when someone even seems drunk.

  • yes

  • Yes. Just because there are kids there doesn't mean the adults aren't still adults. And just because there is alcohol doesn't mean anyone has to be drunk.

  • yes but it is separate from all the other drinks and the adults know where to get it
