Should we stay on fs and medicaid a while longer or let it go?

Our review for medicaid for the kids is due Jan 5th, they will most likely qualify again, but our pay for Dec was so high that we will lose our food stamps. If we skip the review and wait for the fs review in Feb, we will qualify for both because dh has to take classes that will cut his hours to 20/week for all of Jan.

I'm wanting to be done with govt help, but I don't want to act foolishly and not have the help when we really need it. What should I do?

  • i would say to go ahead and go to your review...let them do what they have to do. if they cut your foodstamps it sucks but hey they got to do what they gotta do. whenever his income is cut back you can always call and report that and your foodstamps should go back up. atleast thats how it works where i am.

  • The goal behind government assistance is to get you back on your feet. It doesn't sound like that has happened yet. Do what you need to to keep your family fed. A higher than usual income for one month does not mean your income has improved enough you should be going without food.

  • go to the review if any changes in your income happen you need to contact them anyway, so chances are you will get your Fs back anyway...youll just go without for a monthish
